This seminar gives attendees a clear understanding of Scrum in Agile Project Management and how it compares with the more traditional PMBOK® version of project management.

Course Outline

You will learn the characteristics and benefits of Scrum and gain an overview of Agile Software Development and Scrum. Included are the details of planning and executing a Scrum as well as the culture change required to implement Scrum.  In addition, you gain an overview of Scrum tools, Scrum organizations and your next steps to implement Scrum.

Specific topics include:

  • Visioning and Business Value
  • Product/Selected Product Backlog
  • Sprints, Sprint Backlog, and Sprint Planning
  • Estimating, Burndown charts
  • Daily Scrum Meeting
  • Velocity, Sprint Review and Retrospectives
  • Release Planning, and User Stories
  • Product Owner, Scrum Master, Customer, Team Member, Pigs and Chickens

Exercises include experiential exercise simulating a real Scrum, writing  good user stories, epics, and themes, prioritizing the backlog, using and practicing the well known planning poker exercise for estimation, writing and executing a sprint exercise, and practicing a sprint planning meeting.

Yvonne Kish, CSQE, CSM
Educator and Consultant

Yvonne Kish is a senior professional trainer and consultant. Yvonne has over nineteen years of experience in Software Quality Assurance and Test Management, Process Definition and Improvement, Audits and Assessments, Tools Engineering and Test Automation, Software Configuration Management, Training and Consulting, with a professional emphasis on exploring and implementing quantifiable methods for Software Development Life Cycle improvement.

Her experience includes working with companies with various industry frameworks and standards including Agile, CMMI, ISO FDA, FAA, DoD, PCI, and SOX.  Yvonne’s more recent work has been to successfully help companies with Agile training and transformations.  She holds ASQ, CSQE and ScrumMaster certifications.

She is a recognized expert in Agile methodology, Software Quality Assurance , Compliance and Regulatory audits, and SCM subject matter with numerous industry publications and presentations at various software national conferences on topics including quality process definition and improvement, requirements management, and software configuration management.

Tom Sheives, is a speaker, educator, consultant, author, and coach. His mission is to “Get Project Teams and Management Teams Unstuck!”

Tom’s new book OPPORTUNITY unstuck! describes key principles discovered from his recent experience in Panama. As a part of the faculty of The University of Texas at Dallas, Tom delivered 56 days of project management training to 175 executives of the Panama Canal Authority, ably preparing them for the current $5.25 billion expansion program. The training delivered to the Panama Canal Authority included educating the executive team and educating their key project management staff with an extensive 18 day program.

Tom has consulted and coached teams and individuals from companies such as Texas Instruments, Lockheed Martin, and Microsoft. He leads companies to develop a solid methodology in project management through the transformation of individual and team behaviors and processes. Tom has written and delivered training for PMP® certification PM Fundamentals, Advanced Topics in Project Management, Requirements Development, Agile Scrum, Project Management for Executives, Leadership and Teaming.
